Located on the Left Bank (Rive Gauche), the 15th is a quiet residential area that shares the Montparnasse district with the 6th and 14th arrondissements. The tallest skyscraper in Paris, Tour Montparnasse is located here, as is the nearby Gare Montparnasse.
Whereas the 11th is Paris’ most densely populated district, the 15th contains the largest single population in Paris. The 15th also contains the exhibition center of Porte de Versailles, and the high-rise district of the Front de Seine (or Beaugrenelle) located near the Eiffel Tower.
One of the most visible attractions to be found in the lovely “XVe arrondissement” is the Tour Maine-Montparnasse, commonly referred to as the “Tour Montparnasse.” (You may even find yourself with a view of it from one of many apartments in Paris.)
A 210-meter (689-foot) tall office skyscraper, the Tour was constructed from 1969 to 1972, and is the tallest skyscraper in France. However, soon it may be surpassed in height by the Tour AXA (225 m), and later by Tour Phare and Tour Generali (both approximately 300 meters).
The Tour Montparnasse was built by Campenon Bernard and designed by architects Urbain Cassan, Louis Hoym de Marien and Eugène Beaudouin. The 59 floors of the tower are mainly dedicated to office space, with two floors open to the public for spectacular views of the city. The 56th floor is also home to a restaurant, and a terrace is located on the top floor.
On a clear day, one is treated to a sight that includes a radius of 40 km. You may even be able to catch a glimpse of your own Paris apartment rental 15th arrondissement.
The 15th remains a quiet residential district. It is more upscale where it meets the 7th. The main avenues here hum with commercial activity. The 15th also shares the lively Montparnasse district with the 14th, with its many bistros, bars and nightlife.
Various small squares and parks can be found throughout the 15th, including the largest of these, the urban park of Andre Citroen (also the original locale of the famous car manufacturer). Many Paris rentals long term are available so you can experience the convenience and peace of this wonderful residential area firsthand.
The majority of streets here offer a residential serenity and feature both traditional and modern architecture. Overall, it may be said that the 15th is perfect for those who enjoy relaxed family living in a convenient paris family apartment rental.
The 15th is also home to Porte de Versailles, Paris' international exhibition centre and the 4th largest exhibition center in Europe. The Gare Montparnasse is also here, one of the six large terminus train stations of Paris.
The Front de Seine (also known as Beaugrenelle), located along the river Seine in the 15th, is one of the districts containing the most high-rise buildings in the Paris area (along with the 13th arrondissement and La Défense). However, while 13th’s towers are predominantly residential and La Défense towers are mainly commercial, the towers from the Front de Seine are of mixed commercial and residential use.
The Front de Seine includes about 20 towers reaching nearly 100 meters in height, built around an elevated esplanade. That esplanade is paved with frescos that can only be seen from the elevated floors of the towers. The design of the towers varies widely, with the Hôtel Novotel Paris-Tour Eiffel, for example, featuring red-encircled windows and the Tour Totem created from a stack of glass-blocks. All in all, the towers lend an almost ultra-modern feel to this part of the arrondissement.
While in the 15th, be sure to walk from one of our apartments in Paris and drop by the Musée Pasteur, housed in the apartment where the great scientist spent the last 7 years of his life. Preserved as it was when he lived there, the museum is full of his personal memorabilia and scientific instruments. Pasteur himself is buried on the grounds in an ornate mosaic-decorated mausoleum.
There is also yoga and massage here to enjoy, not to mention bistros, cafes, parks, and all the other trappings of modern living. And, of course, you’re always close to Paris’ main attractions and the rest of central Paris.
